Trained for over a decade under the tutelage of the late Lingnan artist Mr. Shum Wing Kwong (also known as the "King of Fish" for his astounding skills in capturing the spirit of fish), Carole has developed a profound understanding and mastery of the instincts that define Chinese painting from a young age. Her Western art education during schooling in HK and the UK taught her how to combine abstraction with realism; modern with traditional; spiritual with the physical. While studying modern languages at school and majoring in German Literature at university in the UK and Germany, she was exposed to European artists from schools of impressionism, expressionism symbolism and surrealism that inspired her to form her very own unique Western painting style. Thus, Carole has been able to perfectly meld Chinese painting skills, aesthetics, philosophies and motifs with Western modes of expression. As an artist and multi-linguist, Carole sees the important relationship between art and language and thereby able to add depth, poetic, philosophical and literal qualities to her artwork and workshops in which she guides.
After spending several years in the finance & banking industry for companies such as Morgan Stanley , working across Europe and Asia including London, Germany, Shanghai and Hong Kong ,Carole decided to go back to what is most truthful to her heart- art and creativity and to promote the fusion of Chinese and Western art, thus KA Atelier was born.
